SICK safety case

Applied study and deployment of safety components

System description:

The "SICK Safety" case offers several real-world examples from industry for studying safety technologies (switches, relays).

The associated practical exercises enable students to analyze a safety loop with three types of relays: standard, OSSD, and Flexi Loop, through a theoretical phase and a practical phase.
The quick connection (M12) makes it easy to change sensors.
The scenarios were developed in collaboration with SICK to reflect real industrial applications.

Educational activities:

  • Study of the general safety of an industrial machine
  • Study of the mechanical positioning of sensors and magnets
  • Study of STR1 safety switches
  • Study of RE13 safety switches
  • Study of SICK technical documents
  • Study of the phenomenon of hidden faults
  • Electrical study of safety loops
  • Study of types of faults relating to machine safety
  • Study of the differences between unique and universal coding
  • Study of OSSD safety signals
  • Study of the Flexi Loop safety system with associated practical work
